Roof cleaning and moss removal in Peterborough
Moss removed by hand and the gutters cleared with it, without blasting your roof to pieces.
Moss on a roof is not just a look. It holds water against the tiles, breaks off in lumps that block the gutters, and in a hard frost the water it holds expands inside the tile surface. We clear moss from roofs across Peterborough and clear the gutters at the same time, because half the moss ends up in them anyway.
Scraped, not blasted
A high-pressure lance will take moss off a roof quickly and take the surface of the tiles off with it. On a concrete tile that surface is the weatherproofing, and stripping it turns a twenty-year problem into a five-year one. We remove moss by hand with scrapers and brushes, working down the roof, and we will decline to jet-wash a roof that should not be jet-washed even when asked.
What we find underneath
Moss hides things. Once it is off we can see cracked tiles, slipped tiles, failed pointing at the ridge and verge, and where lead has lifted. That is worth as much as the cleaning: you get photographs of the roof as it actually is, and a plain list of anything that wants attention, with no obligation to have any of it done by us.
Why Peterborough roofs collect it
North-facing slopes that see little sun, roofs shaded by mature trees on the older streets, and the shallow pitches common on seventies estate housing all hold damp longer, and moss follows damp. Nothing is wrong with those roofs. They just need clearing more often than a steep, sunny south slope does.
Gutters, and what happens next
We clear the gutters and downpipes as part of the job and check that the outlets actually run. After that it is worth a look every few years rather than every year. The work is insured, and if we spot something that needs a roofer rather than a brush you will hear about it plainly and see a photograph of it.

What people say
In their words, not ours
One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.
Brilliant work! Reasonable price a friendly. Recommend to anyone. Sorted out my roof after 3 companies turned me down.
Amazing roof repair everything finished to a high standard, good communication and reasonable priced would definetly recommend.

Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal in Peterborough: common questions
Will pressure washing damage my roof?
On concrete tiles it can, badly, because the sealed surface is what keeps water out and a lance strips it. We remove moss by hand for that reason and would rather turn the work down than damage a sound roof.
Does moss actually cause leaks?
Indirectly and reliably. It holds water against the tiles, it breaks off and blocks gutters and outlets, and blocked gutters put water where it should not be. It is also very good at hiding a cracked tile.
How often should a roof be cleared?
Every few years for a shaded or north-facing slope, less for an open sunny one. We will tell you what your roof looks like it needs rather than sell you a schedule.
Do you treat the roof afterwards?
We will talk through the options honestly, including doing nothing. What we will not do is promise a treatment that keeps moss off permanently, because on a damp shaded roof nothing does.
