Moss holds water against your tiles, blocks the gutters when it slides off in clumps, and makes a perfectly sound roof look neglected. Stripping it off and cleaning the roof down is straightforward work when it is done with care, and careless is the one thing a roof cannot afford. We clean roofs and remove moss across Lincolnshire.
The moss is stripped from the tiles and cleared away, not left in the gutters or shredded across the garden. It grows thickest on the shaded slopes that stay damp longest, so those get particular attention. We work across the roof methodically so the finished surface is even, and we treat your tiles as what they are, the thing keeping your house dry.
Once the moss is off, the roof is cleaned down so it looks like a roof again rather than a lawn. Gutters get the debris cleared out of them as part of leaving the job tidy, because a clean roof draining into choked gutters is only half a job finished.

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Common questions
A light covering of moss is not damaging your roof, but a thick growth is: it holds water against the tiles, slows the run-off into the gutters and, when it slides off, blocks them. The NFRC's guidance says heavy moss that affects drainage should be carefully removed, by scraping rather than pressure washing. We clear it by hand from boards, clear the gutters, and can fit copper strip to slow regrowth.

It depends on the size and pitch of the roof, how heavy the moss is and the access, which is why we quote from a free visit rather than a phone estimate. The written price is fixed once given.
Left alone, it holds moisture against the tiles, creeps under edges and dumps debris into the gutters every time it rains hard. Clearing it protects the roof as well as smartening it up.
Not the way we do it. We inspect the tiles first and match the method to the roof, and if we find tiles that need attention we show you photographs and tell you before any cleaning starts.
