What usually goes wrong

Gutters block, sag on tired brackets, or come apart at a joint and drip in one spot until the brickwork below goes green and soft. Fascias behind them rot where the felt was cut short and rain has run onto the timber for years. Soffits go the same way, and once they do, birds and squirrels find the gap. None of it is dramatic and all of it is progressive.

Doing the edge properly, not just the plastic

Anyone can screw new fascia over old rot. We take the old boards off, look at the rafter feet and the felt behind them, and put right what we find before the new boards go on. Where the roofing felt has perished at the eaves we fit a felt support tray so water runs into the gutter instead of behind it. That detail is invisible from the ground and it is the difference between a job that lasts and a job that looks good for two years.

Deep flow where it is needed

A long roof slope or a steep pitch throws more water at the gutter than a standard half round can carry in a downpour, and it overshoots exactly when you most need it not to. A deep flow system holds considerably more. We fitted one across a full re-roof along with new fascias and soffits, and it is the right answer on plenty of Peterborough houses.
