Full re-roofs and new roofs, tiled and slate.
Some roofs are past repairing. When the felt has failed, the battens have gone soft or the tiles are flaking faster than they can be swapped, patching just moves the leak along. A full re-roof is the honest answer at that point, and it is work we do a lot of across Lincolnshire, in both tile and slate.
We strip the old covering, then rebuild the roof as a system: breathable membrane, fresh battens, tiles or slates properly fixed, ridge and hips secured, and the leadwork around chimneys renewed rather than reused. New guttering and downpipes can go on at the same time while the access is up.
Extensions and new builds get the same treatment, a tiled or slate roof specified and finished to the standard of our re-roofs, not rushed on to hit a build deadline.
A re-roof has to comply with the building regulations, so ours go through Building Control. The work is submitted, it is inspected, it is signed off, and the completion certificate is issued to you to keep with the papers for the house. On one of ours the inspector from Boston Borough Council came out twice. None of that is us going the extra mile, it is the law, and we work to it.
On a recent re-roof we used Proctor Air breathable membrane over treated battens, anthracite interlocking tiles, and dry-fix ridge and hips so there is no mortar up there to fail. The chimney received new lead soakers, step flashing, an apron and a back gutter, and the roofline got new guttering and downpipes. That is the level of spec we work to.

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Checkatrade's 2026 guide says a roof replacement takes up to a week depending on size, and the roof is never left open overnight: we strip and re-cover in sections and the house is watertight every evening. The scaffold goes up a few days before we start and comes down a few days after we finish, so allow around a fortnight of scaffold for a week of roofing.

You often do not, which is why we photograph the roof when we survey it. If the felt and battens are sound we will say so and quote for repairs instead. A re-roof is only the right answer when patching has stopped making sense.
