“They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out.”
Before you ask
Questions people ask
We live near Bourne Wood and the roof keeps going green. Is that normal?
Shade and nearby trees keep a roof damp, so moss comes back sooner there than on an open slope. We will tell you plainly what to expect after cleaning, and the photographs give you something to compare against later.
Will you jet wash our roof?
Not at full pressure. That can do more harm to the tiles than the moss does. We choose a method to suit the roof and explain it to you before we start.
Is moss removal only about looks?
No. Moss holds water against the tiles and blocks the gutters when it falls. Clearing it protects the roof as well as tidying it up.
Ready when you are
It takes about 30 seconds to ask, and you are not committing to anything.
More about roof cleaning & moss removal in Bourne
Bourne sits where the fen meets higher ground, with Bourne Wood just to the west of the town. Houses close to trees, and any slope that faces north, stay damp for longer, and moss takes hold wherever the sun does not reach. A thick green cushion on the tiles is a common sight across the town, on old pantile roofs and fairly new estate houses alike.
What moss does to a roof
Moss works like a sponge. It holds rainwater against the tiles, and when that water freezes it opens up the surface a little more each winter. Clumps break away, roll down the slope and settle in the gutters and valleys, where they block the flow and push water where it should not go. Left for a few years, a cosmetic problem turns into a maintenance one.
Our process, step by step
We explain the method before you agree to anything, the same way we have for other moss removal customers. In outline:
- We photograph the roof close up as it is, so you see what is under the green
- The moss is cleared from the tiles using a method the covering can stand
- The roof is cleaned down to suit its age and material
- What comes off is cleared out of the gutters and valleys
Care with older roofs
An old pantile roof near the Abbey Church needs a lighter touch than a modern estate roof, and a pressure washer turned up full is the wrong tool for either. We judge what each roof will take. If broken or slipped tiles turn up under the moss, you will see them in the photographs, and any repair is priced separately in writing for you to decide on. There is no pressure and no upselling.
