“They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out.”
Before you ask
Questions people ask
Our north-facing roof goes green every year. Is that just where we live?
Partly. The damp ground near the Welland and the tree cover in the Deepings both keep roofs wet for longer, and shaded north slopes suffer most. Clearing the moss properly and keeping the gutters clear afterwards are the two things that help.
Is moss removal safe on an old pantile roof?
It can be, with the right method, which is why we look and photograph the roof first. An old clay covering is cleaned in a way it can take, not the way a modern tile would be.
What happens to the moss once it is off the roof?
It is collected rather than left to wash into the gutters and valleys, and those are checked once the roof is clear, because that is where loosened moss ends up.
Ready when you are
It takes about 30 seconds to ask, and you are not committing to anything.
More about roof cleaning & moss removal in Market Deeping
Moss does very well in Market Deeping. Damp ground by the river, mature trees shading the houses and slopes that see little sun all keep the tiles wet, and wet tiles are exactly what moss wants. Left alone, a few green tufts along the courses become a thick mat across the whole slope.
Why it is more than a looks problem
A layer of moss holds water against the tiles long after the rain has gone. When that water freezes it works on the surface of the tile, and on an old clay pantile the damage builds winter by winter. The clumps that come loose wash down into the gutters and valleys, which in a town already fighting leaf litter is the last thing they need.
How we go about it
We explain the process step by step before you agree to anything, as we have for other moss removal customers, so nothing on the day comes as a surprise. In outline it runs like this:
- We look at the roof and photograph it as it is now
- We agree a method that suits the covering, whether pantile, plain tile, concrete tile or slate
- The moss is cleared and the debris collected rather than left in the gutters
- Gutters and valleys are checked once the roof is clear
Careful with older coverings
Some of the oldest roofs in the Deepings are clay pantile or slate on stone walls, and they need gentler handling than a modern concrete tile. We judge what the roof will take before anyone goes up with tools. If we find cracked or slipped tiles under the moss, you see them in the photographs and any repair is priced separately in writing, for you to decide on without any pressure.
