Why mortar keeps failing
Mortar is rigid and a roof is not. Tiles expand and contract, the timber underneath moves, and the mortar bed cracks because it cannot follow. What a dry system is
A ridge kit uses a roll of ventilated batten roll along the apex, with each ridge tile screwed to a batten through a clamp. A dry verge is a set of interlocking caps down the gable edge, again mechanically fixed. Both are ventilated, which matters more than people expect: a modern roof needs air moving through it, and a solid mortar bed is very good at stopping that.

Is dry ridge better than rebedding in mortar?
For longevity, yes, and that is the whole point. Rebedding restores what will fail again; a mechanically fixed ridge has nothing in it to crack, wash out or need repointing later.
Will it look different from the street?
Barely. The ridge tiles are the same tiles sitting in the same place. A dry verge changes the gable edge slightly, and we will show you what it looks like before you commit.
Can it be done without a full re-roof?
Yes, and often it should be. If the covering has years left there is no sense replacing it to fix the ridge, so we fit the system on its own.
Half my ridge is fine. Do I have to do all of it?
We will tell you honestly if a section is genuinely sound, but a ridge is one run and mixing systems along it tends to store up an awkward joint. Usually the whole run is the sensible answer.
