Fascias, soffits and guttering in Crowland

The eaves take more of a beating in Crowland than most people expect. Wind coming across the fen drives rain up under the edge of the roof, rocks gutter brackets loose and works at any soffit board that has started to come away. When the gutter is blocked as well, the water ends up running down the brickwork and soaking into the fascia behind it.

Blocked, or finished?

A blocked gutter is not a broken one. On open land, gutters fill with whatever the wind carries off the fields and the roof: leaves, moss and soil. When the run is sound, clearing it is the job, and it is the only job we will quote for. We cleared the gutters on a rental property while checking its roof, and that was all they needed. When the boards behind have rotted or the fittings have perished, we replace fascias, soffits, gutters and downpipes together, so new work is fixed to something solid.

Fixed to stay put

On an exposed house the fixings matter as much as the gutter. New runs go up with enough brackets to hold them in a gale and a fall that carries the water to the downpipe, and new soffits are fixed so the wind cannot get a grip on them. It is unglamorous work, and it decides whether the gutter is still straight after the next storm.
