Before you ask
Questions people ask
Can you just clear the gutters on our Bourne house?
Yes. If the run is sound and only blocked, clearing it is the job, and it is the only thing we will quote for.
Our fascias are painted timber. Do they need replacing?
Not always. We check the wood behind the paint and photograph it. If it is sound we say so, and if it is soft we show you where.
Do you replace the downpipes as well?
When we replace a gutter run we include the downpipes in the same written price, so nothing is left half done.
Ready when you are
It takes about 30 seconds to ask, and you are not committing to anything.
More about fascias, soffits & guttering in Bourne
Bourne takes its name from water. The town grew up around springs, and the Bourne Eau still runs out of St Peter's Pool through the Wellhead Gardens. Rain on your house needs leading away just as deliberately, and the gutters, fascias and soffits are what do it. When they fail, it shows up as a stained wall, a waterlogged flower bed or a ceiling corner going dark.
Signs it is time for a look
- Water spilling over the front of the gutter in heavy rain
- Gutters sagging between brackets, or joints that drip
- Fascia boards with flaking paint, soft spots or gaps at the corners
- Soffits stained, split or open enough to let birds in
- Green streaks down the brickwork beside a downpipe
Old timber and younger plastic
On the Victorian terraces and older town houses the fascias are often timber with many coats of paint on them, and paint is very good at hiding rot. The newer estates have the opposite problem: plastic boards that look fine, but brackets and seals that have started to give, so a run sags and holds water. Either way we check behind the boards and photograph the eaves, so you see the real condition before you decide anything. In the PE10 villages, where many houses sit close to hedges and trees, leaves fill a gutter faster than you might expect, and that is worth knowing before you replace anything.
Cleared or replaced, whichever it needs
Sometimes a gutter is perfectly sound and simply full. During a roof check on a rental property we cleared the gutters, and that was all they needed. When the fittings have had it, we replace fascias, soffits, gutters and downpipes together, so the new system works as one. Ring 01778 775043 for a free look and a written quote. The price quoted is the price paid, and the work is guaranteed for five or ten years depending on the job.
