What we repair, and what we do not

Tracing a leak to its source

Water runs along battens and down rafters and drops where it likes, so the stain on the ceiling is rarely under the hole. We work back to the real entry point, lifting tiles where we need to rather than guessing from the ground, and photograph what is underneath so you can see the same evidence we did.

Lead, valleys and abutments

A lot of Stamford's roofs are cut about with valleys, abutments against neighbouring stone walls, and chimney stacks that were leaded decades ago. Lead fails at the joints and at anywhere someone has run a bead of mastic instead of dressing it properly. We renew it as lead: soakers, step flashing, apron and back gutter, dressed to the profile actually on your roof.

A repair that shouts is not really a repair. Where a tile is long out of production we have tracked down matched replacements from a salvage yard rather than fitting the nearest modern equivalent.
