Our chimney is stone. Can you repoint it?
Yes. Repointing a sound stone stack is ordinary work for us, and we match the mortar to the stone rather than using whatever is to hand. If the stack has moved, we will show you why a rebuild is the better answer.
We never light the fire. Should the chimney come down?
Sometimes that is the sensible answer, sometimes not. A disused stack still needs its lead and pointing looked after, so we photograph it and talk through both options before anything is priced.
Is the damp on our chimney breast coming from the stack?
Not always. More often it is failed lead where the stack meets the roof, or a blocked back gutter behind it. We check both and show you the photographs before suggesting a fix.

Where the water really gets in
