The lead matters as much as the brick

Where a chimney meets the roof is one of the hardest-working joints on the whole house. We renew the full set: soakers under the tiles, step flashing up the sides, an apron across the front and a back gutter behind. We have repaired a chimney where the stack itself was kept and the cure was new lead work around it. If your ceiling stains near the chimney breast, the lead is the first suspect.

Old stacks over old roofs

All Saints and its tall spire have stood over Holbeach for centuries, and some of the chimneys on the older brick cottages below it are showing their years too.
