Cavity Wall Insulation Removal
Failed or damp cavity insulation extracted.
Cavity wall insulation is supposed to sit dry in the gap between your outer and inner walls and keep the heat in. When it was badly installed, or has got wet over the years, it can slump and bridge that gap, and then the wall starts doing the opposite of its job: damp patches and cold spots appear on inside walls that were fine for decades. We take the failed material out, across south Lincolnshire, so the cavity can work again.
How cavity insulation goes wrong
The cavity is there to stop moisture crossing from the outside skin of the wall to the inside one. Fill that has slumped, compacted or soaked up water forms a bridge across the gap, and rain landing on the outside wall can then track straight through to the plaster. The usual signs are damp patches that keep returning after redecorating, cold spots on particular walls, and mould in corners that never used to see it.
What taking the insulation out involves
The failed fill is extracted from the wall: we drill out and remove the material so the cavity is left genuinely clear, rather than treating the stains on the plaster and leaving the cause sitting in the wall. What comes out and what the cavity looks like are photographed as the work goes on, and once the gap is clear the wall can begin to dry out properly.

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Why are my walls damp after cavity wall insulation?

Will removing the insulation stop the damp?
Once the bridge across the cavity is gone, the wall can dry out and do its job again. We are straight with you at the survey about what removal will solve, and if something else is causing the damp we say so rather than taking the job.
