Roof repairs in Lincoln

Slate, pantile and lead repairs matched to the building, with photographs of what we find and a free written quote before anything is agreed.

  • Lincoln, Lincolnshire

Lincoln asks two quite different things of a roofer depending on which end of the hill you are on, and a repair that is right in one place is wrong in the other.

Uphill: matching, and permission first

Around the cathedral, the Bailgate and Steep Hill the buildings are limestone under clay pantile and slate, a great many of them listed and most within the conservation area. A repair there is about matching what is already up there and knowing what needs consent before it is ordered. We will tell you where that line falls on your property, and where a roof genuinely needs a heritage stone slater rather than a roofer we will say so instead of taking the job.

Downhill: shared detail on Victorian terraces

Through the West End, Monks Road and the streets towards the river it is brick and slate, and the trouble is nearly always the parts two houses share. Chimney stacks on the party wall, flashing either side of them, and valley gutters running between the roofs. These get left because nobody is quite sure whose they are, and they cause more damage while they are being argued about than they would have cost to fix.

What we put right

  • Slipped and broken slates re-fixed, and pantiles matched
  • Shared stacks repointed or rebuilt, with flashing renewed both sides
  • Valley gutters cleared, relined or replaced
  • Leaks traced to the source rather than treated where the stain is

You get photographs, a plain account of what needs doing now against what can wait, and a free written quote. The price quoted is the price paid.

  • Free written quotes

  • Five or ten year guarantee on every repair
  • Fully insured, public and employer's liability
  • 5.0 rating across Google, Checkatrade, MyBuilder and Bark

What people say

In their words, not ours

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Roof Repairs in Lincoln: common questions

Do I need consent to repair a listed roof?

Like-for-like repair often does not, but changing materials or details usually does, and the line is not always obvious. We will tell you where your job sits before anything is ordered rather than after.

The chimney is shared with next door. Can it still be repaired?

Yes, and it is much better done as one job. We will photograph it so both households are looking at the same evidence, and quote the whole stack rather than a half of it that will fail on the seam.

Can you match Victorian slate?

Usually. Matching is most of the skill in repairing an older roof, and where a slate is no longer produced we look for a reclaimed match rather than leave a patch that stands out from the street.

What does a repair cost?

We will not name a figure for a roof we have not seen. The visit, the photographs and the written quote are free and carry no obligation.
