Roof repairs in Grimsby

Slipped slates re-fixed with materials that survive salt air, plus ridges, flashing and guttering, photographed and quoted free in writing.

  • Grimsby, Lincolnshire

The most common repair we are asked about near the coast is a slipped slate on a roof where the slates themselves are perfectly sound. That is not a coincidence and it is not bad luck. It is the nail.

Salt goes for the metal first

Wind off the Humber carries salt inland, and salt attacks the steel on a roof long before it troubles clay or slate. Nails corrode until they no longer hold, and the slate simply slides. Clips go the same way. So do gutter brackets, screws and fixings of every kind. The result is a roof that looks entirely sound from the pavement while the things attaching it to the house are quietly failing, which is why re-fixing a slipped slate with whatever is in the van is a repair that comes back.

What we put right

  • Slipped slates re-fixed with materials chosen for a coastal roof
  • Corroded nails and clips replaced rather than reused
  • Ridge and verge re-bedded, or converted to a mechanically fixed dry system
  • Flashing renewed where it has lifted or corroded
  • Guttering, brackets, fascias and soffits where rust has taken them

You see the fixings, not just the tiles

When we photograph a roof here we photograph what is holding it down, because that is where the answer usually is and it is the part you can never see. Then you get a plain account of what needs doing now and what can wait, and a free quote in writing. The price quoted is the price paid, and work is guaranteed and insured.

What people say

In their words, not ours

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Roof Repairs in Grimsby: common questions

The same slate has slipped three times. What is going on?

The nail has gone, and putting the slate back without addressing that gives you the same result again. Re-fixing properly with the right materials is what ends it.

Should I replace the whole roof if the nails have corroded?

Not necessarily. Widespread nail failure does point towards a re-roof eventually, but plenty of roofs have years left with proper re-fixing. We will show you the photographs and tell you honestly which yours is.

Do you cover Cleethorpes and the villages?

Yes, the DN area around Grimsby as well as the town.

What does a repair cost?

It depends on what we find, so we look for free rather than guess on the phone. You get the price in writing and it does not move afterwards.
