My cottage has cast iron guttering. Must I keep it?
On a listed building or in a conservation area you may be expected to keep or match it. Modern cast-look systems satisfy that with far less weight and upkeep, and we will explain the options rather than assume plastic is acceptable.
Can you just clear the gutters?
Yes, and sometimes that is all that is wrong. We will tell you if the system is sound and simply full rather than turning a clearance into a replacement.
Will new brackets damage the stonework?
Not if it is done properly. Fixings go into the fascia and rafter feet, and where masonry is unavoidable, into a joint rather than through the face of a stone.
How do I know if the fascia is rotten?
Usually you cannot from the ground, which is why we look before quoting. Flaking paint, a dipping gutter line or green staining down the wall are all worth a call.
