Cavity wall insulation removal in Long Sutton

Damp or failed cavity fill drilled out and removed so the wall can work as it was built to. Free quotes, always in writing.

  • Long Sutton, Lincolnshire

Cavity walls were built to keep the weather on the outside skin, and a cavity full of wet insulation does the opposite. If a wall in your Long Sutton home has grown damp patches or cold spots since the cavities were filled, the fill itself is the first suspect, and the cure is to get it out of the wall, not to keep repainting over the symptoms.

How cavity fill goes wrong

Insulation that was badly installed, or that has taken on water over the years, can slump inside the wall and bridge the cavity. Once the gap is bridged, moisture tracks across from the outer brickwork to the inner leaf, and you see the results indoors: damp patches that return after every redecoration, cold corners, mould that keeps winning. The wall is doing what a bridged cavity makes it do, and it will carry on until the fill comes out.

What removal involves

We extract the material from the cavity, drilling out and removing the fill until the gap between the two skins is clear again. With the cavity empty it can do the job it was designed for, and damp no longer has a bridge to cross. What we find in the wall and the work we do are photographed, and both the quote and the completed job are put in writing.

Postwar homes and moving house

Long Sutton is older cottages at its core with modern growth around them, and it is the postwar and later houses that have cavity walls, which made them the target for decades of retrofit fill. Failed fill has a habit of surfacing when a house changes hands: the survey picks up damp readings, questions follow, and the buyer's side wants to know what is inside the walls. Dealing with the cavity properly is a far easier conversation than negotiating a price drop over damp nobody has explained.

What people say

In their words, not ours

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Cavity Wall Insulation Removal in Long Sutton: common questions

Why is our Long Sutton house damp after cavity wall insulation?

Fill that was badly installed or has got wet can slump and bridge the cavity, carrying moisture from the outer brickwork to the inner wall, which shows indoors as damp patches and cold spots. Not every damp wall is the fill, though, so we look and photograph before anything is priced.

What does cavity wall insulation removal cost in Long Sutton?

No two walls price the same: the area, the fill material and the access all move it, so we quote after we have looked and never before. The look is free, the quote is written down, and the written figure is what you pay.

Will taking the insulation out make our Long Sutton home colder?

Wet insulation is poor insulation, so a wall with failed fill was giving you little warmth anyway, just damp. Removal gets you back to a clear, dry cavity, and any decision about what happens next can be made with photographs of the actual wall in front of you.

Do we need the cavity cleared before selling our house in Long Sutton?

That usually depends on what the survey says. Where a buyer's survey ties damp to the fill, extracting it deals with the cause rather than the decoration, and you will have photographs of what was found and everything we did in writing.
