Roof repairs in Gedney

Slipped tiles, leaks and lead flashing put right on cottages and farmhouses across the parish, with every repair guaranteed for five or ten years depending on the work.

  • Gedney, Lincolnshire

Wind off the fen finds every weak point in a roof, and around Gedney it gets a clear run at them. A slipped tile after a rough night, a damp patch spreading on a chimney breast, lead flashing that has lifted or split: these are the jobs we do day in, day out, and small problems stay small if you catch them early.

The repairs we see most on the fen

  • Slipped and broken tiles put back or replaced before the felt underneath suffers.
  • Leaks traced to the actual source, not just the spot where the water shows inside.
  • Lead flashing renewed around chimneys: soakers, step flashing, aprons and back gutters, dressed in properly rather than smeared with sealant.

We photograph what we find on the roof so you can see it for yourself, then explain what needs doing and what can wait. You get the price in writing, and the price quoted is the price paid.

Older cottages and awkward tiles

A lot of the cottages and farmhouses out here wear tiles that have not been made for years. Rather than patching a roof with something that nearly matches, we have tracked down discontinued tiles from a salvage yard so a repair blended in with the rest of the roof. On an old cottage that difference is the whole job.

Moss, damp and exposed slopes

Exposed slopes around Gedney Dyke and Gedney Broadgate take the worst of the weather, and moss thickens up wherever a roof holds damp. Heavy moss keeps tiles wet and gives frost something to work on, so if we spot it while we are repairing your roof we will tell you honestly whether it is a problem or just untidy.

Every repair we do in Gedney parish is guaranteed for five or ten years depending on the work, and we carry public liability and employer's liability insurance on every job. A repaired roof out here has to hold in weather that never really lets up, so we treat every one as if the next gale is due tomorrow.

What people say

In their words, not ours

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Roof Repairs in Gedney: common questions

How much does a roof repair in Gedney cost?

Every roof is different, so we will not guess at a number over the phone. We come out for free, look at the roof, photograph what we find and put a price in writing. Customers tell us unprompted that the price quoted is the price paid.

My cottage has tiles that are not made any more. Can you still repair it?

Usually, yes. We have matched discontinued tiles from a salvage yard before, so the repair blended in with the rest of the roof rather than leaving an obvious patch.

There is moss all over the exposed slope of my roof. Is it damaging the tiles?

It can. Thick moss holds damp against the tiles and blocks gutters when it comes loose. When we are up repairing a roof we will tell you straight whether the moss is doing harm or just looks untidy.

Why do I lose tiles every time the wind gets up?

Roofs on the open fen take more wind than most, and it works at anything already loose or broken. Putting slipped and broken tiles right promptly, and sorting the flashing around them, gives the wind less to get hold of.
