Roof repairs in Whaplode

Slipped tiles, leaks and tired lead flashing put right, with photographs of what we find before you spend a penny.

  • Whaplode, Lincolnshire

The main road through Whaplode is lined with older houses, and older houses mean older roofs: slipped tiles, cracked flashings, mortar that has had its day. Putting roofs like that right is the bread and butter of what we do, and with the village sitting between Spalding and Holbeach, we pass this way constantly anyway.

Slipped tiles, leaks and lead work

Most repairs are small if they are caught early. We refit or replace slipped and broken tiles, trace leaks back to where the water is actually getting in rather than where it shows on the ceiling, and renew lead flashing where it has split or pulled away. Around chimneys the lead is usually the culprit, and we renew soakers, step flashing, aprons and back gutters properly rather than smearing sealant over the problem.

Matching the roof you have got

In a village with a Norman church, plenty of the housing stock is old enough that its tiles went out of production years ago. That does not mean a repair has to announce itself. For one customer we matched discontinued tiles from a salvage yard so the repair blended in with the rest of the roof, and we will always try to do the same rather than leave a patch that catches the eye from the street.

What people say

In their words, not ours

One of the problems of finding a roofer when you are an older person is the thought of being scammed, especially given the increasing numbers of rogue traders together with the high costs at stake especially if the work is poor or non existent. We trawled a lot of roofers and found varying prices and limited experience and ‘one man bands’ offering little or no guarantees for their work. We came across Fred’s newly formed EverCrest Property Care Ltd Company and were initially concerned at the limited 3 months or so that they had been trading for, albeit that Fred had been a Sole Trader for some 6 years. So we undertook a ‘due diligence’ on the company and found they had worked on a limited number of roofing projects in the start up time. However having had a number of positive conversations with Fred we decided to give his company a chance having had a very good response and price to our required specification that formed the basis of our Building Control Application through Boston Borough Council. They say you can only make a first impression once and EverCrest Property Care Ltd certainly made an excellent impression indeed, in fact the work they undertook was first class and our Building Control Inspector was equally impressed with the standard of works they carried out. Our project involved replacing a main roof on a detached property and likewise on a kitchen extension. Work commenced on a Friday with the scaffolding being erected along with the delivery of two skips. On the Monday morning around 8:30am a team of 7 arrived on site and by 10am both roofs had been stripped and the Building Inspector was called early to check out the structure prior to the roofers installing the new insulation, membrane and battening in readiness for the new soffits, guttering and tiles being installed from Tuesday onwards. By Thursday the project had been completed and the Building Inspector returned first thing Friday morning and signed off the work having been impressed with the finished work. On the basis of the above experience we would have no hesitation in recommending EverCrest Property Care Ltd as a suitable and very experienced roofing contractor and would be happy to give any references to their standard of works.

Roof Repairs in Whaplode: common questions

Is a couple of slipped tiles worth calling you out for?

Yes. A slipped tile lets water at the felt and battens underneath, and a small repair now beats a much bigger one later. We will come, look and quote for free, however small the job.

Can you match the old tiles on our house?

Usually, yes. Where a tile is discontinued we hunt for a match, and for one customer we sourced discontinued tiles from a salvage yard so the repair blended in with the rest of the roof.

What do roof repairs cost in Whaplode?

It depends entirely on what the roof needs, so we will not guess a number. We look for free, show you photographs of the problem, and put a price in writing. What we quote is what you pay.

Do you repair lead flashing on Whaplode houses?

Yes. Soakers, step flashing, aprons and back gutters are all part of the job, and failed lead around a chimney is one of the most common leaks we put right.
