EPDM Rubber Roofing

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a synthetic rubber membrane that's become the gold standard for flat roofing. It's flexible enough to handle temperature extremes without cracking, UV resistant, and can be installed in a single sheet to eliminate seam failures.

We install EPDM using the Firestone RubberCover system — a single-piece membrane with no joints or seams. The membrane is bonded to the deck and detailed around upstands, outlets, and penetrations using purpose-made accessories.

EPDM is particularly well-suited to Cambridgeshire's climate. It handles the freeze-thaw cycles of winter without becoming brittle, and the UV exposure of summer without degrading. It's the most reliable flat roof system available.

How long does EPDM last?

25-30 years is typical. The Firestone system comes with a 20-year manufacturer guarantee. Properly installed EPDM requires minimal maintenance.

Can EPDM go over my existing roof?

Sometimes. If the existing deck is sound and flat, EPDM can be applied over it. If the deck is damaged or uneven, we'll replace it first.

What maintenance does EPDM need?

Very little. Annual inspection and clearing of debris. No painting, coating, or re-sealing needed. That's one of its main advantages.
